A report from Global brand, Unilever has highlighted that there is an estimated €966 (approx. £851) billion opportunity for brands who develop and make their sustainability credentials clear.

Research has also revealed that and effective CSR strategy can:

  • Increase shareholder value by approximately $1.28  (£1.04) billion

A 2019 survey engaging 6,000 consumers in 11 countries across North America, Europe and Asia found that nearly three-quarters (72%) of respondents said they’re currently buying more environmentally friendly products than they were five years ago with 81% said they expect to buy more over the next five years.

In terms of attracting upcoming, lead talent, it was found that almost two-thirds of young people won’t take a job at a company with poor CSR practices. The survey of 1,000 people found 75% of millennials would take a pay cut to work for a responsible company, and 83% would be more loyal to a business that enables them to contribute to solving social and environmental problems

Some additional statistics surrounding the driving forces behind incorporating sustainability and corporate social responsibility policies include:

  • 81% of global respondents feel strongly that companies should help improve the environment.
  • A third of consumers are now buying from brands based on their social and environmental impact.
  • Of Unilever’s brands, those that integrated sustainability into their purpose and products delivered nearly half the company’s global growth in 2015 and continue to grow up to 30% faster than the rest of the business.
  • 81% of global companies say that ethical and environmental sustainability is important to them with almost one in five planning to increase their emphasis on ethical and environmental standards
